Animal Control

The Orleans Police Department's Animal Control responsibilities include the investigation of animal complaints and problems, dog or cat bites, vicious animal complaints, sick or injured wildlife, and barn and kennel inspections.

The department has an animal control vehicle, which is equipped with the necessary safety equipment to handle most animal-related situations.

The police department instituted the animal control function in 2002. There is 1 officer assigned to this responsibility full-time. Officer Christian Ziemba is a fully trained police officer assigned as the Orleans Police Animal Control Officer. He has received additional training from the Massachusetts Animal Fund and the Animal Rescue League.

Nuisance Animals

The town of Orleans' Animal Control officer will gladly assist you with a variety of animal issues. The officer cannot assist with nuisance animals, such as skunks, raccoons or squirrels that get into an attic, basement or chimney. If you have such a problem you must contract with an animal removal company. These companies will be listed in your yellow pages phone book or on the web under Pest Control. The Orleans Police Department does not endorse any company.
