- In-person: A paper form can be obtained and completed in the front lobby of the Police Department at 99 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA 02653.
Please note that there MAY be a nominal charge for all copies of records, which will be quoted upon submission of your request.
Can I receive a copy of any type of record?
No, under state law certain records are not available. Examples of records that are not available include:
- Accidents or incidents involving criminal charges which may result in incarceration and have not been adjudicated
- Accidents or incidents which are still under investigation
- Records that are expressly prohibited from disclosure to the public by statute
- Arrest records
What is the cost of a record?
Under Chapter 66 of Massachusetts General Law, the cost of a record is $0.50 for each side of a page, though the department does not charge for basic requests.
For requests which require more than 20 minutes to complete, a prorated hourly fee for search time and segregation time expenses, as defined by CMR 32.03, may be assessed.
How long will it take to obtain the record?
The Records Access Officer (RAO) must furnish a copy of any public record not later than 10 business days following the receipt of the request.*
(1) the request reasonably describes the public record sought,
(2) the public record is in the possession, custody, or control of the agency or municipality that the RAO serves, and
(3) the RAO receives payment of a reasonable fee, if any.
*If the department is unable to respond within 10 business days because of the undue burden placed upon the other responsibilities of the department due to the magnitude or difficulty of the request, or of multiple requests from the same requester, the department must inform the requester and is allowed an extension for up to 25 days following the initial receipt of the request, meaning an additional 15 days after the 10-day deadline.
How do I obtain copies of photographs?
Requests for photographs are made through the same means as copies of records. Please contact the RAO at the station for a quote on the cost of photographs.
