Overview
The Orleans Bike and Pedestrian Committee, formed in originally in 1995 and re-formed in 2017 by the Orleans Board of Selectman, is charged with the following:
- Propose initiatives for improved off-road walkways for pedestrians and more consistent road shoulder room for cyclists.
- Identify priority roads requiring the most critical need for improved pedestrian and cyclist safety.
- Understand Town's rights/constraints to land immediately adjacent to priority roads.
- Survey existing sidewalks and recommend an appropriate maintenance program to the responsible town department.
- Evaluate the state of road and bikeway signage and make related recommendations.
- Provide recommendations regarding future bike routes.
- Promote safety education and outreach to the community.
