[ARCHIVED] Open Burning Season is January 15 - May 1

Open Burn Season

Open Burning permits are now available for the season running January 15 through May 1. Click here to purchase a burn permit and to burn today.

All permits must be obtained through the new online permitting system. Paper permits are no longer issued. Please see our user guide for step-by-step instructions.

Important information to know:

  • Burning hours are from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM only
  • The decision to allow burning is evaluated daily by the Fire Department by 10:00 AM
  • Permits may be obtained anytime, but burning is only allowed on approved burn days
  • Residents must check the system on the day they plan to burn
  • A login is required to use the new system
  • After applying, users will receive a confirmation email with their permit (be sure to check your junk or spam folder)
  • Your 2026 permit is valid for the entire open burning season
  • As spring approaches, burn days become less frequent due to weather conditions such as wind and reduced rainfall

Burning without a valid permit or on a non-approved day is not allowed.

For questions or assistance, contact the Orleans Fire-Rescue Department.
