The Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries has issued a precautionary shellfishing closure for the entirety of Nauset Estuary and the Namequoit River (SC63 Pleasant Bay) in Orleans. Recent water samples reflected high levels of red tide in both waterbodies. Shellfish samples are being sent to the testing laboratory and if they come back clean, the fisheries will be re-opened immediately. Lab results are likely due back by the end of next week.
